Trump’s latest warning to introduce an additional complete levy on Chinese goods has been called a “typical example” of American hypocrisy, according to the China’s leadership.

A official from China’s Commerce Ministry also stated that China could introduce its own unrevealed “responsive actions” if the US President carries out his threat, emphasizing that the country was “unafraid” of a potential trade conflict.

Last Friday, the former president responded at the Chinese government’s action to strengthen its policies for foreign shipments of rare earth minerals, charging China of “adopting a confrontational stance” and attempting to hold the international market “hostage”.

Additionally, he threatened to pull out of a planned talks with Beijing’s head of state Xi, which was arranged for a conference in South Korea in the coming weeks.

His statements on that day shook stock exchanges, with the benchmark US stock index closing down nearly three percent, marking its largest decline since last spring.

These statements revived fears of a trade conflict between the US and China.

This past spring, the both nations had agreed to drop high import duties on each other’s imports, which had created the possibility of commerce ceasing between the economic powers.

Consequently, United States levies on products from China subject to an extra thirty percent tariff compared with the year’s onset, while American products entering the country incur a ten percent duty.

China’s latest remarks – issued by the Ministry of Commerce in the manner of official answers to journalist’s questions – reflected language from the zenith of the latest commercial tensions.

They criticised American limits on exports on electronic components while supporting Beijing’s export controls on key elements as “standard procedures” to protect state interests and that of the global community.

Their representative said that for “an extended period”, the America had “broadened the definition” of national security, exploited export control measures and “implemented” unfair treatments against China.

“Using” trade levy ultimatums is not the proper method to interact with China,” their representative said.

“The nation’s view” on a import duty dispute has always been unchanging: we wish to avoid one, but we are fearless of one.”

Recently, the Chinese government revealed it was reinforcing overseas sale regulations on rare earths and further resources essential to cutting-edge industry.

This was seen as a key move, as the state handles about the vast majority of the world’s rare earths, which are employed in goods such as solar panels and mobile phones.

Latest statements from the US and China are being interpreted by analysts as a means of strengthening positions ahead of forthcoming discussions.

Is not yet known whether a meeting between Donald Trump and China’s leader, scheduled at a high-level meeting in South Korea before month’s end, will go ahead.
